Hi Janet,

What your doing sounds right, I would leave it longer and see what happens.

Hi, I used to grow avocados years ago as a way of obtaining cheap indoor plants. It always took about 6 to 8 weeks for anything to happen, I admit sometimes the water level would drop below the base if I forgot to keep an eye on it and you do have to make a cross cut in the base to help it along. Good luck just give it time.

I've got a large avocado and love just growing them as people are always really pleased to get one, just keep watering it and it'll come eventually. Alternatively throw them in your compost heap and by the time you come to empty it, it will have sprouted and then you can just pot it up. Good luck! :)
