Gardeners Calendar

A gathering place for vegetable gardeners & allotmenteers

Has anyone tried this method. I will have very little time to be out in the early spring digging a garden and thought this might help, not to mention the great use of existing waste

I haven't heard of the term but is it laying down carboard on the ground and covering with a layer of compost/manure to form a mulch? If so I have used this method on areas of the allotment which I set aside for crops later in the season. It's a great way of stopping the weeds, and at the same time introducing fibre and manure to the soil.

Pretty much. So far I've used newsprint, manure, peat, wood compost, bone meal, and hay. I thought, for the amount of time that I had, cardboard would take too long to break down. How long did it take for your compost to degrade?
