Hi Jemima, I have an area of meadow that I allow to grow wild next to my vegetable garden. It is about the same size as the vegetable garden. About 4 years ago, I decided to stop cutting and allow it to run wild. I tried collecting and sowing seed…

FOOD GROWING BLOGGERS GET TOGETHERS

Some weeks ago the idea of a kind of international food growing bloggers get together was mooted. It was a kinda fun thing that grew out of various conversations by some blog writers, Patrick in Amsterdam, Kate in Adelaide and myself

Well things have been quietly going on in the backstreets of the towns and countries around the world and I’m pleased to report that there are now Food Growing Bloggers Get Togethers planned for the next few years.

They kick off this year with events on August 24.… Continue

Reflections on my garden

This is my first year growing vegetables and I’m discovering I’m not very good at it. I’m especially, not very good at raising seedlings. I sow tiny little seeds that I can hardly see and usually, for me, not a lot happens! The surface of whatever container I have used seems to get a bit disturbed but that’s all. After several months of this I have only just realised that the problem is mice eating the seeds and the new growth!

I’m not very good with trees either. I planted some cypress to form… Continue

It would be great to see you both. Can I persuade you to come for lunch - something simple from the garden maybe soup or salad depending on the weather. Let's hope it improves by then! Are you beginning to wonder why you bothered putting in that swimming pool?

Hi Ian
I am so pleased that your kitchen garden day went well - I read your blog - sounds like you have a great community where you live and you are integrating well.
I would love to see you if you are passing this way - I'm sure I can rejig things if you come on a day when I am supposed to be working. My address is 7 Rue de la Noue, 17240 St Dizant du Gua - so you can check it out on routeplanner.
Sorry to see your chinese cabbage looking so sad - if it's any consolation mine suffered flea beetle on the leaves then flea root beetle making the whole lot a smelly mess not even useful on the compost! I have have other successes though - hope I can show you when you come.

Hi Ian
I don't think I will be able to make it for your kitchen garden day. I have visitors and they are only here for a few days. Maybe next year. Please take some photos and let me know what recipes you will be making. I seem to be making something every other day at the moment - the latest are beetroot chutney and apple and lemon marmalade.
Hope your day goes well and the weather is kind.

Hi Ian
Sorry to hear you haven't been well - I hope that's all behind you now. Wow the work you've taken on seems huge. I am having a fosse septique put in at the moment and it's chaos... lorries, diggers and vans whizzing about all over the place. It was all going so well and then came the rain! I am not looking forward to tomorrow when they bring it 3 lorry loads of top soil and try to spread it around in the soggy garden.
I would love to come to your kitchen garden day, I think I have visitors during that week, but maybe we will take a trip your way it will depend on travel times etc. I will let you know. Could you send me your address and postcode so I could do a route planner.
Anyway hope all is going well with your projects and the garden.

Hi Ian
How are you? Haven't seen you much on the lunar website recently. How are your plans for the French meal going? And what about the renovation project? I hope all is OK.
Things are pretty good for me ... I have started the veg box scheme slowly with 3 customers plus a couple of others who come to the house to buy when they feel like it. It suits me as there is not so much pressure to produce lots all at once. Maybe next year I will aim for 6 boxes a week, but I don't want many more than that. My parents were here for nearly a month distracting me with trips to the beach and entertaining nearly every night. It was fun, but a month is a long time and I am now enjoying my own space again.
Hope all is well with you and you are still growing things.
