The water butt is doing fine ... the other week we had a wet spell, and sure enough, I was able to siphon off some "free" water to give the garden a drink. It has a tap at the bottom and the watering can fits very nicely underneath when I am filling…

If its the same as the ones I use the drainpipe connector has to be installed at the max filling height of the tank if you fit the drain connector too high and then it never fills up and keeps sending water to the tank.

Hi Chas, Have you thought about leaving the squirrels some nuts so they feed on them instead of your bulbs? Just an idea .... :) Jaki

I grew some in a compost bin last year and they turned out fine! I used Carlingford seed potatoes. There is no harm in trying out different things to see what is best for your situation. Good Luck Jaki

Well, after being overwhelmed by discussion, I took the plunge and pulled them up! The results were "interesting" to say the least. They were small and had "changed direction" during growth! So I have learned 3 things: 1. don't leave it too late…

Hi all, Last August I planted some carrot seed in a large container. They appeared to grow and then by the time November arrived, they seemed to go to sleep. So I left them in the container. Now that March has brought some sunny warmer weather, the…

Feeling spring-like so got down to sowing some seeds

A warm day so decided to do some sowing. The orange and lemon plants were done first, in their own little pots and growing medium. I made the soil moist and popped the seeds in, covering them over. I then put
them upstairs on the windowsill in the back room. (This room is the warmest in

the house and has plenty of light). I am not expecting them to do very well

because they were cheap and cheerful - £1

each for 2 seeds of each. But you never know ...

Where there's muck .....

I love Freecycle!

I came across this wonderful idea a while ago, and have benefitted by finding a good source of manure.

The rhubarb will love it! (and no doubt the veggies too)

Anyway, the new lot of strawberries turned up and they have gone into one of those pvc type strawberry planters and I have put them temporarily into the lean-to so that they are not too cold, however, later in the month I will move them outside.

I managed to get a plastic shed - well, small tool store really, which w… Continue

Spring is definitely here!

April 24th, and I have been too busy to write my blog!

The veggies are doing very well, all growing nicely apart from the strawberries - I think that they went out too early! So I have learned my lesson there. So I have purchased some more from T & M and am waiting for them to be delivered sometime in May.

Did I mention that I have started to grow some coriander and sweet basil? They are sitting happily on my windowsill in the kitchen.

I also have to report that my lean to green house has… Continue

Things are moving on ...

The radish sowing on 1st April has proved successful as there are little seedlings coming up. I was very surprised by the speed of the pea and bean growth - both were re-potted into a 3 inch pot on Sunday as they were both hitting their leaves on the top of the propagator lid.

Even the courgette has poked up from under the soil too - something that I didn't expect quite so soon.

Today - Wednesday 8th April, the raspberry canes arrived - so despite it not being a fruit day, I decided not to wai… Continue
