I have had no luck with spinach either! We must find out why...Whats this calendar you speak of? I need one and have been meaning to look for a good one on t'internet - did you get yours from Paul on this site? I have briefly seen them advertised on various websites but there is not much info except the price of the calendar. Like you said - it would be great to have set days on which to do set jobs - I tend to just do what I feel at the min but then I am usually gutted when I have missed the boat with a certain plant or job.
this is my second year of moon planting, and i am having the best success i have had with all my seeds, apart from spinach - which is having a bad year again, no idea why
i have got a couple of friends in darlaston, they live in a converted church hall, and i go to walsall a lot, have fiends there too
not really sure about tips,i am pretty much a beginner too. i used the info on this site a lot then i bought pauls calendar - i check that every day to see what to do. still learning really. i like the fact that it sorts out what jobs to do when, cos loads of things need doing at the same time in spring
Hi Kate, fellow west midlander, where abouts are you? i am near kingswinford, just moved out of Brum. I am very impressed about the sloe worm - i have only ever seen them down south
Cool, your squashes sound great. I have never tried Crookneck, they are the lumpy looking ones aren't they? Your rotten squash from last year sounds like a victim of wet weather. Out of approx 30 plants last year I had almost 10 courgettes.
, the rest did the same as yours. Dreadful year for many plants including Tomatoes and Potatoes, both of which got the 'Blight' and had to be burned.
This year I am growing, Tomatoes (Roma, F1 Shirley, Plum & Cherry Plum), Potatoes (Charlotte, King Edwards), Lettuce, Rocket, Pak Choi, Onions, Runner Beans, Peas, Broad Beans, Curly Kale, Cauliflower, Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Carrots (3 types but can't remember what they are), Radish (French Breakfast and 'Rat Tail'), Spinach, Cabbages, more Runner Beans, Squashes. and I think that is it so far. But if I find a space not being used I plant something in it. Today I am off to plant more Lettuce, and other leafy herbs, and take some new pics too.
Have a good weekend, and I look forward to seeing the photos.
I am growing those!! Of course I will - I hope it looks as good as I imagine it too though...I am going to take some more pics over the weekend - I can't believe how much it has changed since those last pics. I went down there yesterday and was over the moon to see some (very small) squashes on "crookneck" - I tried one last year and it produced one tiny squash but it was much later on in the year than this and then it suddenly went rotten and dropped off! :(( I have no idea what went wrong there - but it is looking much more promising this year.
Hi!
LOL! It happened to come for free from the place I work at. I know it looks a bit like fort knox - everyone keeps asking when the tigers are arriving. However it turns out it is quite multi functional - it keeps birds and foxes out, stops rubbish blowing onto my site and it holds my hose pipe in place so I can get on with other things. I am hoping to grow cucumbers, beans and squashes up it to take the industrial look away though :)
