Hiya Charlie, Sounds like not enough organic matter in the soil to supply enough Nitrogen for growing. All the Celery family love natural composts or well rotted manure as it gives them the slow release feeding they need and helps maintain plenty…

Hi Gaelle, Firstly i'd stop watering them altogether, for some reason it seems to stem the flow of blight. Then If you have quite large tomatoes and serious blight issues then I'd take all of the tomatoes off the plants and make chutneys with them,…

I'm pleased you lot had success ! A few of mine got blight but some are left which appear sound, but still green. Should I leave them in the hope that they grow/ripen more, or is there no hope now and should I pick them and ripen them in a paper bag…

Hi Charlie: Darn! We were in Vancouver at the time you visited. We have just moved back to the Island after 25 years on the Mainland. (husband and I both born Islanders- so nice to get home!) The town you are thinking of is called Tsawassen - has a ferry terminal to the Island and goes to Victoria - which is about 45 minutes north of where we live and the other town close to Pt Roberts - could it have been White Rock? or Surrey.

Hi Charlie: hello from t'other side of the world! I live in the Cowichan Valley, southern tip of Vancouver Island and our climate has been classed 'mediterranean' - however our weather is usually your weather - in other words..Summer? what Summer? I have three terraces all UPhill, little soil, many rocks (glacial moraine) which had been neglected for 20 years. So it is compost compost - I have two going at the moment, one black box and the other an envirocycler (mounted on rollers and you rock it back and forth). I have been pleased with baby spanish olive trees I planted last summer- they are fruiting (thought they are the size of pencil erasers) and I was very glad I had boxed them up for the winter as we had very unusual low temps -12C. That's all from Quail Hill - waving LN

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for your message. I saw from Sarah's page that your house is up near Mansle. I'm a couple of hours drive further south in Perigord, near issigeac.
Tell us all about your garden. There is a link on my page to my blog where you can find out what I'm doing..
All the best
Ian

If that's near Angouleme I looked at a house near Mansle about 18 months ago, but ended up buying somewhere about an hour further south - I love it here. I have taken on quite a lot with renovation and big garden, 2 other gardens and I have started a veg box scheme. It keeps me busy and I make time for all the other stuff too.

Hi Charlie
Thanks for your message and for inviting me to be your friend. Where is your house in France? Do you get to spend much time there? How did you get into gardening? Have you been gardening for a long time or are you a novice like me?
I hope you have had a good summer in the garden, I certainly have. Although some things have been a bit later than I would have expected. My tomatoes are only just ripening and peppers and aubergines just about big enough to get excited about. How about your garden?
Sarah
